I cannot believe my sweet baby girl is six months old already! You hear all the time that they grow so fast, but you never quite realize it until it happens to you….
According to her checkup last week, my daughter is still growing! :P But seriously, she's a marshmallow and it's adorable.
And, on a purely selfish note, I can start trying to include soy and dairy in my diet again!
For those of you that didn't know, my sweet baby girl has been allergic to dairy and soy since birth but we didn't find out until a month or two into it by noticing her bowel movements were a little off. I am not going to go into graphic detail, but it was bad. Yeah, I know baby poo is bad in general, but this was worrisome.
Luckily, this is an allergy that newborns usually outgrow by the time they're a year old, so the pediatrician recommended I try to eat some dairy for myself, then breastfeed her and see how her body reacts. Oh, how I missed you Cool Ranch Doritos, Chex Mix, brie, burrata, pizza (yes, I ate pizza without the cheese, not the same), yogurt... And so far so good on the baby's bowels!
My baby girl is the reason a lot of recipes on my blog are dairy free. And even though I can have dairy again, I think I will try to keep it out of my diet as much as possible because I do feel and look better without it: my daily headaches (although still present), have gotten less frequent, I have a surprising amount of energy considering the nightly sleep interruptions to breastfeed, and I'm officially below my pre-pregnancy weight!
But you know I'm going to throw some cheese in every once in awhile, come on! Thus my newest recipe: Baked Honey Donuts with Gouda! A light, moist, gluten-free donut with a wicked slice of melted gouda cheese on top.
Oh, cheese, I missed you so.
