Juice Cleanse for the Win

Day 1 of my favorite juice cleanse!

I tend to get into the same trends as my husband. Being together for 12 years since our teens, we’ve kind of grown up and into ourselves together and thus have developed similar likes and dislikes.

(Although just the other day I turned to him and said, “How are we even married??” after he did something polar opposite of what I would’ve--but I digress.)

I bought my husband a coffee maker for Christmas about 5 years ago because he mentioned having a cup at work and I thought it’d be nice to at least brew him something with taste to it at home. Besides the high school days of endless refills of coffee at IHOP (which was mostly cream and sugar by the time I was done doctoring it) so I could stay out past midnight, I was not a coffee-drinker at all in my adulthood.

But it turns out after seeing my husband enjoy his morning pick-me-up and basking in that earthy bitter smell, I tried, I liked, and now! cannot live without the liquid energy with a splash of almond milk. I almost rid myself of the (beloved, just to reiterate) addiction during pregnancy but having a newborn wake throughout the night got me right back on that wagon quickly.

Another “trend” my husband influenced me into was juicing. Turning plants into liquids, people, not steroids! Again, I got him something as a gift that I myself knew nothing about: A multiple-parts juicer that was loud, bulky, heavy, and turned fruits n veggies into a beverage like a mo-fo.

I am now a big promoter of a particular three-day juice cleanse that I partake in often, especially after the holidays when my gluttony gets the best of me. I highly recommend to anyone that would listen to try a juice detox. My favorite one is a different juice blend for three days in a row but you do get a solid dinner every night, which is important to me.

You just FEEL better. Your skin gets softer and has a natural glow to it, you don’t feel heavy or clunky. And you make wise food choices for at least a while after this three-day juice cleanse it over.

But have fun with it! Choose basically whatever fruits n veggies you want just make sure it’s a blend and not just deceptively sugary fruits. Although I love beets, the addition of it in my juices isn’t my favorite thing so sometimes I swap it out for a different vegetable. If it’s the end of the week, I’ll just throw all the odds and ends plants left over in the fridge into the juicer and see what we come up with.

I’ll be interested to see what the hubby gets me into next. Biking? Check. Whiskey? Check. Car-racing? He wishes but probably not.
