The day has come!
We were so excited to introduce solid food to Sistine this past Saturday. It was definitely not what we expected in many ways! Firstly, the "solid" food was super-duper liquidy. Makes sense on hindsight but, I dunno, I grew up thinking BOOM babies get puree right away and figure it out. And I guess some of them do, after reading up on baby-led weaning. At any rate, the gruel-like oatmeal was a surprise.
Secondly, Sistine didn't take to it like I thought she would! I swear everything goes right into her mouth to suck on at any given moment but you try to pour in a teaspoon of lukewarm breastmilk-oat goodness and suddenly I'm the bad guy! She'd gag every time! I ever placebo'd her by bringing an empty spoon to her mouth and pretending to feed her oatmeal and she still gagged! Drama-queen.
Really, though, she was a champ, and super sweet with it as is her nature. And if all your life all you'd ever known was liquids I'm sure being (lovingly) force-fed chunks would be a real eye-opener.
I'll be happy to move on to banana in a few days!
